Currency handling on Shopify Markets: the gotchas

What Shopify’s docs don’t tell you about FX rounding, tax-inclusive pricing, and reporting.

Currency handling on Shopify Markets: the gotchas

Shopify Markets handles currency for you — until it doesn’t. Here are the gotchas docs don’t tell you.

FX rounding

Shopify rounds prices per currency rule. Your "$19.99" in USD becomes €18.97 in EUR by default — ugly. Configure currency-specific rounding rules per market for clean prices.

Tax-inclusive vs exclusive

EU markets typically expect tax-inclusive pricing. US doesn’t. Configure markets to display correctly. Misconfigure this and bounce rates go up 8–15% in EU markets.

Reporting

Shopify reports in your store currency by default. For multi-market revenue dashboards, you need to pull native-currency amounts from the orders API.

Currency UX is a market entry strategy. Treat it like one.
